Need houseplant advice?

My houseplant is a Croton. I think I over fed it with Miracle Gro plant food and it is looking in really bad condition. I repotted it in new peat to take the plant out of the contaminated peat it was in.

but my wife thinks the Croton is already dead. I am not sure as though the leaves are limp downwards than they should be they are still green and have not gone brown. I trimmed off the top part off the plant to maybe help.

Is it really dead or am I having false hope it is alive?

This is a photo of the plant http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc156...

Need houseplant advice?
leave in a cool place, not in direct sunlight, dont water. this should bring it back to life..hopefully, water again in a weeks time or until the peat is feeling dry, DO NOT OVER WATER AGAIN.!!!! Use tepid water in the winter.Stand pot on stones/pebble/gravel %26amp; make sure pot base is clear of the water.
Reply:It looks like you've over-watered it. Leave it a few days until the compost has dried before watering it again. In the winter you should only water it very sparingly when the compost is dry. Remember, even though the compost is dry on top, chances are it's still quite damp at the plant's roots. Also, don't feed it with strong food, use a very weak feed, but even then, not until next spring.
Reply:its nice to know u are so concerned about your houseplant but remember its Autumn already and Crotn looses its lustre during this period.at least mines do
Reply:Scratch the woody stem gently with your thumbnail - if it is green underneath the plant is still alive.

I looks ok to me though albeit a bit straggly.
Reply:I am the Harold Shipman of house plants....don't ask me
Reply:just leave it alone in a non harsh environment ie not too much light or draft. do not water cos overwaterings worse than too dry. Give it time - its post shock trauma
Reply:looks like it's still limping along... however... it will not be beautiful again like it's counterpart... I'd use the leafed parts to start new plants and give the main a decent send off....
